Motor Starting Capacitors

A starting capacitor is connected to the motor windings through a centrifugal switch. It is used to increase motor starting torque and allows an electric motor to be cycled on and off rapidly . When the motor reaches around 75 percent of its full speed, the centrifugal switch will drop the starting capacitor out of the circuit. Leaving the motor to run unassisted.

These capacitors usually have capacitance values of over 64 µF. They come in various voltage ratings, depending on the application they were intended for

Motor Running Capacitors

Many single phase AC motor designs use motor run capacitors, which are left connected to the auxiliary coil even after the start capacitor is disconnected by the centrifugal switch.

These designs operate by creating a rotating magnetic field. Motor run capacitors are designed for continuous duty, and remain powered whenever the motor is powered.

The capacitance value of run capacitors is usually lower than the capacitance of start capacitors, and can be in the range of 1.5 µF to 100 µF.

Pool Pump Capacitors

We have a slim range of running capacitors which are specifically designed to fit into smaller pool pumps.
